Thank you for your interest in donating online to Micah 6 of Austin. This fall, the Micah 6 of Austin Food Pantry will move its operation to University Presbyterian Church (UPC). The move is a natural outgrowth of emerging facilities needs at University Baptist Church, the planned reconfiguration of space at UPC and four years of staggering growth in the number of people seeking pantry services. It opens up exciting possibilities for enhanced service. For the first time, recipients will have indoor waiting space; more room will allow for potential expansion of support services; and we have an opportunity to invest in equipment that will see the pantry through decades of ministry with our poorest neighbors from across this community. This undertaking will be possible only with your help. How Can I Help? We are launching a Capital Campaign to raise $60,000 in individual and congregational donations that will be used as seed money to seek additional grant money from several sources. We are inviting your donations to this important effort. As part of its $2 million building project, UPC is spending a significant amount of its resources to renovate space for Micah 6. Of this initial portion of the campaign, $45,000 will go toward that renovation. As part of the move, the pantry will also invest $11,000 in energy-efficient appliances and other equipment (itemized list included). The remaining $4,000 will serve as a contingency fund for move-related expenses. Any unused contingency balance will further subsidize renovation costs. Whatever your means, donations from $1 to $1,000 or more are deeply appreciated. You may even choose to donate your tax rebate check, helping those most vulnerable to an economic downturn. What Progress Has Been Made? Already, three congregations have generously donated over $21,000 toward the renovation, leaving only $39,000 of our individual and congregational goal to go. Micah 6 board members have also individually committed to match every dollar up to $15,650 donated for the Capital Campaign between now and October 1. How Do I Donate?
Need More Information? We have included a one-page history, highlighting the genesis and growth of Micah 6 of Austin, as well as a flyer outlining our mission and listing the member congregations that drive and support this ministry. If you’d like to learn more, the 2007 Annual Report (pdf file here) and an online video presentation (Windows Media Player link here) on the work of Micah 6 are also available. What’s the Timeline? While your monetary donation will always be accepted, please consider donating prior to October 1 in order to double the impact of your dollars through the challenge match. We hope to have the funds raised well in advance of the mid-fall move. Thank you for considering this invitation. Please continue to hold Micah 6, its pantry recipients, this campaign and the ministries of all the Micah 6 congregations in prayer. We are grateful for all you do to help this ministry continue to do justice, love kindness and humbly follow the Divine call to serve those most in need.
